1981 FBI Disc

Recently on eBay a new batch of 1981 Discs appeared to add to the checklist.  Revisiting them they are extremely rare only issued in Canada and not that well collected.  Issued on the bottom of Fanta Beverage Inc. (FBI) drink containers they are usually found scuffed and dirty.

Current checklist most likely still very incomplete.  Discs are unnumbered. The checklist below is in
alphabetical order.

1981-83 Venezuelan Stickers

Continuing the Venezuelan theme as I will in the next few post this set is very similar to the 80-81 set in that it is 288-sticker set measures approximately 2" by 2 3/4" with name centered and then sticker number below.  For the 1982-83 winter season, the set was expanded with several cards being issued per team with letters suffixed to the card numbers.  Distributed by Digallo C.A.  Special thanks to Clyde's Stale Cards Blog for pointing me at the checklist.

This 288-sticker set measures approximately 2" by 2 3/4".   The fronts feature color player portraits  framed by white border. 2002 Panini Stickers Caracas History

Another Venezuelan set measures 2 3/8 x 3 and consists of members that played in the Caracas Venezuelan "winter ball" league through out the years so it contains many MLBs along side some great Venezuelan players.  It was issued with a album and the stickers were issued in packs.  There are a few double puzzle stickers that create a complete image when together.

The checklist is incomplete at this time so any additions are appreciated.

1983 Wichita Eagle-Beacon Bubblegum-less Cards

It was issued in the Wichita, Kansas area newspaper and included 3 players to a strip but included football, hockey, basketball and even college and high school players and seems to have focused on what ever sport was popular at the time frame.  The 1985 issue was made up of old timers and past heroes.

This 1983 checklist was compiled by Kevin O'Conner at http://www.calripkenjr.net/ he got the microfilm from Wichita and went through and cataloged each one.

here's an individual

and the strip

they are super tough to find as the Wichita Eagle-Beacon just isn't the New York Times as far as distribution.

1974-1976 Cincinnati Reds Photo Cards

This set features members of the 1974-76 Cincinnati Reds. These cards had no PC markings on the back.  measure 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" Cards have the player's fascimile autograph in a white box with a Cincinnati Reds below the signature both in black. Since the design didn't change from 1973-1976 it is impossible to distinguish individual years except by certain players only played during certain years and by uniform style.  Since these cards are unnumbered, we have sequenced them in alphabetical order.

1980 Philadelphia Phillies Photo Card

Continuing the Phillies theme this set was similar to the 1979 set in that is is postcard sized but blank backed.  Most likely it was issued by the team shop at the ballpark.  There is also many variations on the autograph locations on the cards indicating multiple printing or just poor printing the first go round but there doesn't seem to be any premium on where the autograph is located.

While this set is cataloged here is the checklist for the panels.  They originally came 2 per box bottom in Canada for Fanta Beverage Inc hence FBI.  A super tough issue in single form and complete box form as baseball just wasn't too popular in Canada and not that many collectors knew about this release.

1974 Pete Ward's Baseball Clinic

Pete Ward was a professional ball player with 8 years in the majors from 62-70 when his playing days were over he started a baseball clinic hosted at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.  He used his contacts in the majors to get some major league players to attend to help the kids learn the game.  In 1974 he issued a set for the kids it was 6 1/4 x 8 printed on thin paper they are very rare today as very limited distribution and very poor stock.  Checklisted below is 6 it is believed to be complete.

Mickey Mantle Yankees
Pete Rose Reds
Maury Wills Dodgers
Billy Martin Twins
Pete Ward Yankees
Harry Walker Cardinals

1964 Cincinnati Reds Souvenir 12 Player Picture Pack

Continuing the tradition the Reds issued another 12 player pack this one is the easiest to identify as it is the only year where they put Cincinnati Reds next to the names instead of the usual Reds.  It was originally issued through the mail or ball park in a envelope with a clear cellophane window.

1981 Fleer Star Sticker Color Variations

This one is not something I usually pounce on but clearly the 1981 set was either printed in 2 locations or had 2 runs probably the later.  If you notice they come in a dark blue border or a lighter blue border the lighter blue seems the rarer of the two but I've never seen any premium on them.  You can also notice on the front the stars on the top and the lettering - the darker blue has more of a 3-d effect an extra white shadow line while the lighter blue does not.

I doubt anyone beside super hard core collectors care about this but I think it worthy enough to post.

1975 SSPC Variations

Another sidenote item but for us collectors with everything here is a cheap uncataloged variation I just noticed.  The SSPC set seems to have been printed twice once on cream colored paper and other on pure white there is also a cropping difference top to bottom notice the middle C on the jersey.  It's a widely available cheap set that has been rumored to have been reprinted long after 1975 think this pretty proves it.  The cream seems to be slightly easier to find but I have a small sampling to go by

1974 Reds Alert Scapbook

This set was released in the local news magazine called Reds Alert which covered the Cincinnati Reds in detail.  The set is a large sized 9 3/4 x 13" they seem to be carrying on the Cincinnati Enquirer scrapbook issues.  The set is unnumbered and the backs contains various articles from the magazine I am not sure if the checklist below is complete but I believe it is.

1969 MLB Photostamp variations

While this set is well cataloged there is a variation to it.  Early in 1969 the set was first issued in 4 booklets each containing 48 stamps corresponding to each division nl west, east, al west, east.  Then they were re-released later on in the year in the traditional 18 sheets of 12.  This made for the addition of 24 extra players for the second set.

The variation between the 2 printings are mainly on the back the photos are identical although if you really get nitty gritty they are cropped a hair different.  The first printing which is much scarcer and is called var 2 has a solid line on the back while the second printing carries a dashed line.

The scan above highlights the differences.

As for the checklist I'll list the 24 players added those will only come in variation 1 the second printing style the rest come in both variations.

The following players were NOT issued in the "type 2" or "variation 2" group:

AL:   Andy Etchebarren - Orioles NL:       Bob Aspromonte - Braves
        Bob Allison - Twins
            Bill Hands - Cubs
        Bob Rogers - Angels
            Tony Cloninger - Reds
        Chico Salmon - Pilots

            Dal Maxville - Cardinals

1970 MLB Photostamps

There has always been a lot of confusion with this set but I'll try and straighten it out.  The 1970 set is an extension of the 1969 set the 69 set was issued in 18 sheets of 12.  The 1970 set continued that trend with 2 exceptions the last sheet only has 3 cards and the album had an extra perforated sheet of 12 cards.  They are easy to tell apart when in sheet form but when cut out biggest difference is they do not have airbrushed logos.
